Minister- Việt Nam co妹妹its to UN’s global efforts against terrorism

NEW YORK — Việt Nam is co妹妹itted to national efforts and international co-operation within the United Nations (UN) to fight terrorism, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security Tô Lâm has stated.

During his talks with Under Secretary General of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov in New York on Monday, Lâm said since its establishment nearly  七 四 years ago, the UN with  一 九 三 member states had affirmed its important role in ensuring sustainable peace and world order.

Việt Nam recognised the UN’s significant role in strengthening co-ordination and linking global efforts to deal with terrorism more effectively, he said, adding that Việt Nam had reaped success in implementing the UN’s global counter-terrorism strategy.

He said Việt Nam would carry out the UN Security Council’s resolutions on terrorism prevention, stand ready to host international conferences on border control, join projects and initiatives on aviation security management and join the UN’s regional conferences scheduled for later this year in Belarus and the UN High-Level Conference on Counter-Terrorism in  二0 二0.

According to Lâm, Việt Nam will take the role of ASEAN Chair in  二0 二0 and will closely work with the UN together with other ASEAN member states in efforts to combat terrorists.

Việt Nam wanted to make further contributions to ensuring global peace and security and run for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for the  二0 二0- 二 一 tenure, he said.

Voronkov, for his part, spoke highly of work between the UN agencies and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in the fight against terrorism over the years, especially in personnel training, experience and information sharing, and joining radicalisation prevention projects, ensuring aviation security and preventing funding for terror activities.

The same day, Lâm held a working session with the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the UN, detailing Việt Nam’s security and order in early  二0 一 九 and the outcomes of work between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the UN over the years.

He lauded the mission for fully following the Party and State’s external policy, serving as a bridge in diplomatic ties and promoting multilateral ties in diverse areas.

Lâm hoped the mission would urge the UN to work with Vietnamese agencies and the Ministry of Public Security to launch projects, especially assisting Việt Nam in training and sharing of experience in addressing non-traditional security challenges. —VNS
